2pm Saturday the 6th August saw the annual Rogate Fete & Flower Show opened to provide masses of fun, entertainment and games for all the family. With “The Wild West” being this year’s theme, visitors from all over the area, were encouraged to dress up as Cowboys or Indians, a Squaw or Sheriff. Some £5,000 was raised on the day for Rogate’s Village Hall and recreational facilities. Highlights of this year’s fete included, the arrival of a Chinook helicopter from RAF Odiham which spent two hours at the fete, with the crew taking groups through the whole aircraft from rear to cockpit; The Wild West theme was reinforced by American Indian drumming and a tipi, headdress making and an Indian-themed treasure hunt; A very popular fun dog agility display which had all ages enthralled; Mr Giant who kept the children entertained during the course of the afternoon; The book stall, which filled the entire Village Hall, and the bric-a-brac stall, both in hot demand from bargain hunters; The inflatable obstacle course which posed a challenge for the more energetic; Beautifully presented classic cars from the LL Club; Children’s and family races, bringing out the competitive spirit of family fete goers; A huge and impressive selection of cup cakes for the village teas and Denmead Brass Band, appearing for the first time at Rogate. Other activities included chuck-an-egg, swinging log game, working steam engines, face painting, children’s fairground and the ever popular children’s races. There were stalls selling crafts as well raising support for charities (Diabetic Research, Labrador Lifeline and Petersfield Lions Club) and promoting special interests such East Hants Self Sufficiency Group. The money raised (just on £5,000) from the fete and flower show goes to support the Rogate Village Hall and recreation ground which is owned and run by a charity to provide recreational facilities for local people. |

The “Arabian Nights” Panto put on at Rogate Village Hall by Proteus Productions from Basingstoke, was deemed a truly great success by all who attended the Saturday afternoon show. Brian Allison, the Rogate & Terwick Village Hall Committee Chairman, said: “He and his team had been completely blown away by the production, the whole troop of actors and technicians were both very professional and a joy to work with, they really brought the whole thing to life, with lots of comedy whilst telling a really good story, just what you want from a Christmas Panto. The whole show from the original concept idea through to the actual show had been a real team effort and said he would really like to thank personally, all his team of helpers for their hard work. From Ticket production and sales, through the shows advertising & promotion, setting the hall up, the raffle, teas, coffee & ice-reams to the clearing away afterwards took a lot of effort by his team and just showed what the Rogate community is capable of”. With the very kind sponsorship provided by Rogate Garage, Rogate Parish Council and not forgetting Trudy & Ron from the White Horse Pub who are always there to help & support village efforts, the cost of the tickets was kept as low as possible so that all could enjoy the show in these hard times. Did YOU miss the show, well put it in your diary NOW for next Christmas! |

THE ROWANS HOSPICE VOLUNTARY FUNDRAISING QUIZ NIGHT in ROGATE VILLAGE HALL - SATURDAY 17 MARCH HAILED A GREAT SUCCESS I would just like to thank yourself, and of course Shaun and Brian for all the help in making the evening such a great success. We do hope that everything was left in order. We cleaned down the kitchen and cleared away all tables/chairs at the end of the evening, took the rubbish to the bins and swept the hall. Shaun insisted that he would mop the floor on Sunday morning. The freezer was quite full when we arrived but Shaun was very helpful in helping us clear some space for the choc ices, by removing some of the picnic style freezer packs. I am not entirely sure whether these were placed back into the freezer before we left though, so perhaps you could please let Shaun know, just in case they are needed very soon. Anyway, with your very kind and generous help Ann, we made a profit on the night of just over £780 for The Rowans Hospice, I just know that they'll be absolutely delighted. I know my small team of three were thrilled The Hall is absolutely delightful Ann - and all our quizzers thought it was very well maintained and such a clean venue. One or two even said that they were that impressed they would like to plan an event there themselves. So - thank you again for your help throughout Ann - and hopefully we can do the same again next year. Look forward to hearing from you, with regard to return of deposit cheque, in due course. With kind regards from Paula Williams. The Coach House. Rake Road. Liss. Hampshire. Voluntary Fundraising for and on behalf of The Rowans Hospice. 01730 893610. pws@paulawilliams.me.uk |
